Sustainable Building Materials

Followers of this website will be aware that sustainability stands front and central to our aims. This is also a founding principle of the Westfeld site developer, wohnen&mehr. Less well-known is the fact that w&m were project partners in the creation of the catalogue “Building materials for cities in climate change”. This is important, since when compared to rural areas, cities and densely built areas heat up more in the summer and cool down less during the night. Among the influences for this so-called “heat island effect” is the choice of building materials. A new material catalogue issued by the Federal Office for Housing (BWO) shows that certain building materials reduce the warming effect on the environment less. Drawing on their own insights and experience, Westfeld planning teams participated in a number of workshops. The reference catalogue is aimed at planners and construction companies who create or renovate buildings in the urban space.
