It’s taken more than five years to build the Wohnen+ Basel Community of members and friends committed to the idea of a sustainable living in the heart of a bustling, culture-filled city. According to wohnen und mehr’s schedule, by this time next year we shall be in our new homes – less that 2 kms. from Basel City Centre.
To celebrate the 12-month countdown, as well as welcome in the season of peace and goodwill, on 19 December we held our first-ever Verein Christmas Party for members and friends – held in the open air of Solitude Park. With views across the Rhine to Basel’s imposing cathedral, the park is a one of the many jewels in the City, tucked between the new Roche Towers and the Tinguely museum on the north bank of the river.
Braving the chilly weather,
There’s never a climate guarantee for December in central Europe, and we were careful to announce the celebration as “weather permitting”. However, after days of fog, gloomy skies, low cloud and the frequent threat of rain, our members and friends enjoyed the rare treat of cloudless blue skies and sunshine.
On offer was Glühwein and soup to keep the cold out, plus a wide variety of nibbles provided by the 20+ people who had signed up for the event. We also had a selection of Christmas music to add that extra bit of Christmas cheer.
And what of next year? Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see!
